My Wife: “My most brilliant achievement was my ability to be able to persuade my wife to marry me.” – Winston Churchill
Family is the most important thing in my life. The person at the core of my family is my wife, Melissa Duncan.
Melissa and I met in our 11th grade high school English class. We knew a lot of the same people but had never met one another until that time. Within a few weeks we became great friends. After a football game, with me in my football uniform and Melissa in her cheerleading uniform, I asked Melissa if she would go and see a movie with me. We saw Remember the Titans and then grabbed lunch at McAlister’s Deli. A lot of people think this is crazy but Melissa is the only girl that I ever dated. I had been a pretty shy kid and really focused more on athletics than I did on trying to find a girlfriend. When I met Melissa I knew I couldn’t let the opportunity slip by. Without trying to sound too sappy, she truly is all that a guy could ask for. As they say, from there…it was history. We both went to Elon University and got engaged on August 11, 2006. Ten months later, on June 17, 2006 we got married in Charlotte, NC. After graduating from Elon University School of Law we both passed the bar and are practicing lawyers in Greensboro, NC. I consider myself lucky to be married to a girl who is not only a great wife but also my best friend.
My Mother, Father, and Dara: “The voice of parents is the voice of gods, for to their children they are heaven’s lieutenants.” – Shakespeare
My mom – she is one of the hardest working, most driven person that I know. I try to model my work ethic off of hers. She has always been one of those people who goes out and gets what she wants – she doesn’t wait for it to come to her. In addition to being driven she is an incredibly gracious and caring person.
My father – he is the comedic relief of the family. He too is hard working but understands the balance between work and life. My dad is willing to do anything for his family and that really means a lot to me. He and I would both deny it, but it seems with age I become more and more like him every day. Although I am sure that could be in a bad thing in certain ways – I consider it as one of the highest compliments.
My sister – what can you say about Dara? She is the social butterfly of our family. It always seems like the room lights up when Dara walks into it. Dara is also incredibly beautiful (I emphasize this because people say that Dara and I look alike. If so, I’m sorry Dara!). Dara goes to law school at Florida State University. Dara is also very independent. In the past she has spent several months in Italy on two different occasions and she also spent a semester in France. She is willing to take risks so that she gets the most out of life. I picked on Dara quite a bit as a kid and I regret that. However, I am extremely proud of my sister and all that she has accomplished.
